Join the Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (FASO) and get acquainted with a dynamic organization of music lovers. For over thirty years, FASO has supported the endeavors of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra through social events, education and fund–raising. All activities are designed to enhance the musical development of the community and encourage and foster an interest in music, especially in young people. The Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (FASO) was organized in 1964 to complement and help strengthen the programs of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) through education, fund-raising and social events. ASO is recognized as one of the best regional orchestras in the Mid-Atlantic, and since 1961, has evolved into a thriving community institution presenting memorable symphonic music for communities throughout the area. FASO activities are designed to enhance the musical development of the community and to encourage and foster an interest in music, especially in young people. The continuing development of a fine symphony orchestra depends on many things, the most important of which is the community’s consistent support, whether by attending concerts, nurturing a love of music in youth or providing financial backing. FASO provides just such consistent support. MUSIC EDUCATION Children and adults benefit from the ASO programs that FASO members support and fund, including many who are today’s audiences and patrons of symphonic music and some who have become fine classical musicians. Scholarships for Scholars: FASO annually presents a scholarship to a high school musician of special merit as chosen by a committee of musicians and music teachers.
ORCHESTRA SUPPORT FASO also directly supports the orchestra through the following activities: Orchestra Rehearsal Dinners: FASO members have an opportunity to meet and talk with ASO musicians during rehearsal dinners.
Hospitality: FASO provides gift baskets to guest artists and conductors during their week of rehearsals. FUNDRAISING Read Between the Wines: Spend an afternoon talking with your favorite best selling authors, purchase personalized books, and savior fine wines. This unique event is held in early December, in time for holiday gift giving.
Champagne Sunday: In Spring, this popular event offers an afternoon at a spectacular local home or unique public venue with champagne, hors d’oeuvres and music. SOCIAL EVENTS Fall Membership Brunch: The FASO Board hosts members at an annual brunch where music is performed by student players.
