Orfeo Alliance

The Orfeo Alliance, named after a Greek god of music, is a music and education partnership between the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and The Key School, founded in 2005 with a generous endowment from the Patricia and Arthur Edwards Family Foundation.  The purpose of the Alliance is to further the mission of both organizations by establishing an annual music education Artist-in-Residency for Key School students and to support the artistic programs of the ASO, so as to foster a deeper appreciation of music and the arts in the community.

The Key School, a Pre-K through 12 institution, is founded upon the conviction that children are innately curious about themselves and the world; they want to learn, they want to discover, and they want to create.  The Key School music program follows the Orff Schulwerk approach, developed by composer Carl Orff.  The program was developed at Key School by one of his protégés, and takes a unique approach to music education that involves all students in a daily study of speech, rhythm, instruments, singing, creative movement and dance, drama, and improvisation.
