Derek Smith

Viola Associate Principal

Derek SmithWhat city are you living in now? Springfield, VA

Where did you study? I studied Violin and Viola at the Manhattan School of Music, receiving both a Performance and Masters’s degree.

What is your favorite piece of music? I really enjoy listening to Yacht Rock on Sirius Radio.

What do you enjoy in your spare time? I have been sitting on the beach, at my cabin, on an island off the coast of Connecticut looking out into the Long Island Sound.

What is your fondest Annapolis Symphony memory? I really love when the Symphony gets the chance to play at Strathmore Music Center. We are usually playing the best repertoire with the absolute best soloist! It’s what I hope every concert will look like in the future. The Symphony deserves a state-of-the-art performing facility to hear the very fine nuances of its members.
