The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra showcases the depth of its talent by featuring Principal Trumpet, Christopher Sala, in the second concert of the Masterworks Series, November 17 and 18 at 8 pm at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. This concert is generously sponsored by Kagan Law Group.
Led by Music Director José-Luis Novo, the concert will feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Eino Tamberg’s Concerto for Trumpet No. 1, and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 4.
This is Christopher Sala’s 15th season with the Annapolis Symphony. He also performs as the principal trumpet of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., where he is a frequent soloist. In his Navy Band career he has performed for the last three Presidents and often plays for several foreign dignitaries and government officials each year. Christopher holds his Bachelor’s in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University. Before coming to the area he toured the United States and Costa Rica with Atlantic Brass and Epic Brass, playing recitals and as featured guest artists with symphony orchestras across the country.
The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is led by renowned Music Director José-Luis Novo, who is beginning his thirteenth season with the orchestra. This particular concert excites him in the astonishing way all the pieces seem to come together. He remarks, the concert is “a tasty musical sandwich: the opening door to a revolutionary symphonic cycle and a masterful symphonic essay from one of the most lyrical composers, bookending a brilliant Estonian trumpet concerto and a soulful musical meditation.”
