School Concert

The school concert planned for Friday, January 19, 2024 has been cancelled due to weather. Ticketholders please call our Box Office for refund or exchanage. It’s time for one of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s favorite traditions: our annual school concert! Join us for what’s sure to be an out-of-this-world musical field trip!

Each year, the Symphony performs annual educational concerts for thousands of elementary school children from regional public schools, area private schools, virtual learners and homeschooled students. These concerts take place during the school day at Maryland Hall, and expose students to symphonic music in a fun, inviting, and often humorous way.

The Symphony strives to:

• Introduce elementary schoolchildren to live music performed by a professional orchestra
• To teach students about the four instrument families
• To engage young listeners with multi-media elements, such as video, theater, dance, magic or puppetry
• To reinforce that music is fun and accessible

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra presents an out of this world concert perfect for elementary aged students from public and private schools, virtual learning programs, and homeschool programs. Fly far into the cosmos with NASA/Goddard and  Conductor José-Luis Novo in a space-themed adventure at Maryland Hall on January 17, 18, and 19, 2024. Students will experience first-hand the glory of the universe with multi-media presentations of video and music.

The program includes:

The Moldau by Bedřich Smetana – with NASA Goddard video footage showcasing stunning images of Earth’s waterways derived from NASA and USGS’s Landsat Satellite Program.

The Planets (excerpts) by Gustav Holst -Neptune, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury – with NASA Goddard video footage of the planets in our solar system.

Music from Apollo 13 by James Horner – with NASA Goddard video footage using astrophysics images, visualizations and animations that show objects beyond our solar system.

Adventures on Earth from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial by John Williams

Choose from a 10AM or an 11:30 AM performance. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for chaperones and adults. Discounts are available for Title I schools.
