Audition

All students who apply to our Virtuoso Pathway program or who want to join an ASA ensemble must audition. Auditions are completely free, and are available on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. Auditioning with the ASA is as simple as 1-2-3!

1. Complete the online application form. Select placement in our Virtuoso Pathway program or one of our ensembles. On the application form, select “Online Audition”.
2. Prepare a video audition on your mobile phone or electronic device. Be sure to title your audition using your First and Last Name.
3. Upload your video to YouTube as “unlisted”, again being sure to title it with the student’s first and last name. Send a link to your video via our video audition form!

Faculty and ensemble directors may determine if a student is ready to move upwards to higher ensembles depending on the student’s current playing level and progress. Students may audition for a higher ensemble at any point in the semester. Pending a satisfactory audition, students will be assigned to the higher ensemble in semester following the audition date.

IF YOUR STUDENT HAS NO EXPERIENCE PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT

Students with no experience should consider enrolling in our Discovery classes or starting private or group lessons. No audition is required. Please fill out our application form.

IF YOUR STUDENT IS A BEGINNER, OR IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING VIRTUOSO PATHWAY OR LYRA ENSEMBLE

Please submit your audition video including:

• One-octave scale of the applicant’s choice including arpeggios (two-octave scale encouraged).
• A piece of the applicant’s choice from Suzuki books 1 through 3 or equivalent level.

IF YOUR STUDENT IS AN INTERMEDIATE PLAYER, IF YOU WANT TO MOVE UP IN OUR VIRTUOSO PATHWAY PROGRAMS TO THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL, OR IF YOU ARE AUDITIONING FOR THE ARIES YOUTH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA OR AQUARIUS WIND ENSEMBLE

String Requirements

• Two-octave scale of the applicant’s choice including arpeggios (three-octave scale preferred).
• Two contrasting of the applicant’s choice from Suzuki books 4 through 7 or equivalent level.

Wind and Brass Requirements

• One-octave scale of the applicant’s choice (two-octave scale preferred).
• Two contrasting pieces of the applicant’s choice demonstrating the applicant’s current playing level.

Percussion Requirements

• Two-octave B flat major scale on bells
• One piece on bells and one piece on snare demonstrating the applicant’s current playing level.
