Where did you study? B.M. from Miami University of Ohio and M.M. from Indiana University.

What is your favorite piece of music? Brahms Trio for Horn, Violin, and Piano.

What do you enjoy in your spare time? I enjoy the outdoors, cooking, and especially anything tech-related.  I’m currently learning guitar on the side.  I love spending quality time with my wife and our cats, Sunny and Gracie.

What is your fondest Annapolis Symphony memory? Mahler Symphony 1 in 2016. We had an amazing brass section and the entire orchestra was just electric that week!

Shane Iler received his Master’s degree in 2007 from Indiana University School of Music where he studied with Mike Hatfield and Rick Seraphinoff.  After finishing his degree, he furthered his studies with Denise Tryon of the Philadelphia Orchestra.  He performs regularly with several area orchestras, including Richmond, Maryland, Reading, and Allentown Symphonies. Shane also serves as Principal Horn with the Williamsburg Symphony.  

In addition to orchestral playing, Shane is an avid chamber musician. He performs with and helps run the ANCO, a self-conducted chamber orchestra based in Virginia. Rounding out his performance endeavors are The Georgetown Woodwind Quintet and Ars Nova Brass Quintet. Shane is also an experienced Natural Horn player.

Shane is an active teacher with several extremely talented students. His students regularly receive spots in district and state bands/orchestras. He currently lives in Alexandria with his wife, Stacie, who plays Clarinet in the US Army Band “Pershings Own”, and their two cats, Sunny and Gracie.
