Annapolis Symphony Partners with Annapolis Film Festival for “Moonlight & Movie Music”

Moonlight and Movie Music

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s season-wide theme of music from the cinema continues with its third Masterworks concert, “Moonlight & Movie Music” on March 1 & 2, 2019 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. The Symphony partners with the Annapolis Film Festival for a showing of a 2016 short feature from the Oscar-nominated French animation school, MoPa, accompanied by a live orchestral performance led by Music Director José-Luis Novo.

The concert will open with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s popular Symphony No. 25, followed by a projection of the Annapolis Film Festival Short, “Beyond the Books,” featuring live music selected by Maestro Novo. The second half will begin with Gustav Mahler’s Adagietto from Symphony No. 5. The evening will finish with Silvestre Revueltas’ La Noche de los Mayas (The Night of the Mayas), visually accompanied by “Revolution,” a work of new media art by Amsterdam-based painter and filmmaker, Jacco Olivier. The film is a hybrid of vintage animation, hand-made techniques, and digital means, where stop-frame captures of paintings are layered to create a three dimensional effect.
