Press Release: Pops in the Park

Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Launches Landmark 65th Season with Free Pops in the Park Concert Celebrating America250

Beloved annual tradition draws thousands to Anne Arundel County Parks for an evening of music, poetry, community, and patriotism, with an appearance by Maryland Poet Laureate Lady Brion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 15, 2026 ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will launch its milestone 65th season with Pops in the Park, two free outdoor concerts celebrating America250 and the power of live music on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Downs Park and Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM at Quiet Waters Park.

Set against the backdrop of two of Anne Arundel County’s most treasured parks, Pops in the Park is a fun event for the entire family.  One of the region’s most anticipated free music events for decades, Pops in the Park last year attracted more than 7,000 attendees. The hometown spirit and wholesome vibe of both Pops in the Parks concerts make them unique events that serve as the perfect capstone to a Chesapeake summer. The powerful sound of 70+ professional musicians reverberating across the parks and over the Chesapeake is something not to be missed!

The program, shaped by the theme of Annapolis250, will feature a special appearance by Maryland Poet Laureate Lady Brion, whose work explores history, identity, and the shared stories that connect communities. Lady Brion will perform Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland, a work for narrator and orchestra that incorporates parts of President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and includes excerpts from other iconic speeches by Lincoln. She will also perform two of her own poems. Lady Brion will perform at both events.

Other pieces in the program will include music the entire family will recognize and enjoy, including pieces from Broadway and Hollywood and high-energy symphonic hits.

“As we begin our 65th season, we are proud to gather our community for a celebration that reflects the values at the heart of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra—connection, service, creativity, and shared experience,” said Artistic Director and Conductor José-Luis Novo.“Pops in the Park is more than a concert. It is a chance for thousands of neighbors, families, and visitors to come together through music in one of the most beautiful settings in Maryland. Pack your picnic and bring a chair, and we’ll see you at the park!”

The concert at Quiet Waters Park will open with a performance by Annapolis Symphony Academy (ASA) Aries Youth Chamber Orchestra under the baton of ASA Director of Artistic Operations Heather Haughn.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, family, and friends. Plan to arrive and park early in order to avoid traffic. Access to the parks is free, as is parking. Food trucks will be available. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Anne Arundel County Parks. Well-behaved, leashed pets are allowed at these events.
